An attempt at consistently chronicling my unconventional journey through one of America's top ten law schools. "Here I am, Lord...I have heard you calling in the night. I will go, Lord, if you lead me..."

Welcome
In two days I start law school at one of the top ten schools in America and I have no idea why. I'm not a political science major, I have already come to the realization that I cannot save the world and despite the fabled lawyer's salary, I am not entranced by the idea of getting paid 6 figures at the price of my freedom and sanity. Instead I am a study in contradictions: an extremely devout Christian who takes equal pleasure in learning about others' faith as she does her own; a graduate student who choose between law school and divinity school, a young adult who decided on becoming a lawyer, but whose resume seems to have better prepared her to be an opera singer, fashion designer or ballerina. I am not the conventional law student. Every law student loves to say that--we all like to think we're unique--but I don't fit into the pattern of students I see around me. People told me over and over that law school should demand 110% of my focus--that I should do nothing else. But to do nothing else is to choke off parts of who I am that are equally as important to me as my academic transcript and resume. So I dance. And I sing. And I cook. Because to take away life--those things in life that we do because we find them beautiful and enchanting and wonderful--means that we make those parts of us stop living. We let them die. And then we wake up when we are forty and wonder why parts of our souls feel dead. Perhaps that is a risk other law students want to take, but it is not something that I am willing to risk. This blog is about the law, about my life and about living in general. My life right now is law school, but it is also fashion, cooking, sewing, languages, art, music. My hope for this blog, while rather lofty, is that at the end of 3 years, it will reflect a picture of a different way to approach law school and a different perspective from a student inside of all law school's madness.
